Information & Advice for Parents and Guardians
Plug and Play is a new interactive events and activities guide for young people in Worcestershire. Established with government funding as part of the Publicising Positive Activities for Young People campaign, Plug and Play seeks to inform young people of the wide range of events and activities available across Worcestershire. Worcestershire Youth Support service in partnership with many other organisations from public, private and voluntary sectors provide the majority of activities though we actively encourage other groups and individuals to put forward their own events for inclusion as well.
Although every effort is made to check the accuracy and suitability of the event listings contained on the Plug and Play website, due to the nature of the service and the quantity of listings displayed we cannot assume responsibility for the content of individual entries or the events that they refer to. As with any other website, there are a number of common sense precautions you, as a parent or guardian can take to ensure that your children can get the most enjoyment and benefit out of this service safely.
1. Talk to your children and encourage them to be open with you about what they do and what they look at on the internet. If you don't understand a website or application, ask them to teach you how to use it.
2. Remember that the same rules you teach your children for the real world dangers should also be applied to their internet usage. They should never give out their personal details to anyone*. If, as in the case of Plug and Play, their personal details are required in order to access certain facilities for example to register for an event or to book tickets or a place on an event, check that you are happy for them to do so first. You could arrange for your child to give your details instead. You can use the contact information contained in each event listing to speak to the event organiser or venue to find out why the information is needed and what they will do with the information when it is given.
* Personal details include, but are not limited to, name, email address, instant messenger ID, address, telephone numbers or pictures of themselves or family or friends
3. You should always accompany your child when they attend an event listed on the site and never let them meet an 'online friend' on their own.
4. Always keep communication open for a child to know that it's never too late to tell someone if something makes them feel uncomfortable. If you or your child finds an event listed on the Plug and Play website that you feel is inappropriate or that you suspect is inaccurate, please contact us immediately either by clicking on the 'Report this listing' link found on each events details page, by emailing us at support@plugandplay.org.uk or by calling 01905 22576.
