Help - Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains help for using many of the features and facilities of the Plug&Play website. Just click on a question to view the answer.

Posting / Submitting Events:

- Absolutely. Please do. Plug&Play needs people like you to let us know about all of the great stuff going on around Worcestershire. You're our eyes and our ears! Just click 'Submit Event' from the menu at the top of any page.

- Nothing. It's completely free even for commercial events.

- Yep. Post as many events as you like and providing they meet the guidelines for submission, they will appear on the site within 2 working days.

- When you submit an event, it is passed on to our team of trained staff who check through all of the details. Providing it meets their guidelines for event submissions, it will appear on the website within 2 working days.

- Sure, but before you get in touch, make sure that you've read the little bits of help on the event submission page. You can view help with any part of the form by holding your mouse over the small question mark ("?") icon next to the section that you're having problems with. If that doesn't help you can drop us a line by clicking here and filling out the help enquiry form. If you include your telephone number, name and the date of your event, we can give you a call and help you to submit your event.

- You need to allow 2 working days (i.e. Mon - Fri) for your event to make it onto the site. This is because our trained staff check the details every event that's submitted and we usually give them the weekend off. If you posted an event more than two working days ago and you've not heard from us then it's likely that the event you submitted has been declined (see the question below for possible reasons this may occur). If you would like us to check the status of your event, drop us a line by clicking here and filling out the help enquiry form (don't forget to include the event title and your name).

- We check all events submitted through the website for accuracy and appropriate content, subject to event submission guidelines. If the details are not accurate and we can't contact you to amend them or the content or if the type of event is deemed unsuitable for our sites users we have to decline your entry. Once an event has been declined, it is deleted from our database.

- Make sure that you read through and follow the event submission guidelines. Providing you do this, there should be no problems.

- Just ask! We try to feature a wide variety of events and activities on the homepage. If your event is something a bit special then you've got even more chance. Contact us for more information.

- Almost anything really, so long as you're event is open to the general public and doesn't break any laws or our Terms of Service. We have an ever-expanding list of event categories to cover anything from Acrobatics Workshops and art exhibitions to welly wanging and variety shows. If you can't find the category that's right for your event or you think we've missed something, just let us know.

Newsletter: Subscribing and Unsubscribing:

- The Plug&Play newsletter is basicly a way for us to let you know about all of the great stuff going on in Worcestershire. Once you've registered for the newsletter you'll receive a regular email from us with loads of news about what events are going on, news about the Plug&Play service and just some random fun stuff.

- The only information we need to register you for the newsletter is your first and last names (so we know who we're talking to), your email address (so we know where to send the newsletter to) and which types or categories of events you're interested in (so we can send you events that are relevant to you). Read our Privacy Policy to find out more about what information we collect and how it's used.

- Well, nothing. We only use your details to send you the newsletter. We don't pass your details on to anyone else. We won't try and sell things to you or send you irritating 'free' offers. If at some point you decide that you don't want to recieve the newsletter any more, we'll delete all of your personal details from our system. Read our Privacy Policy to find out more about what information we collect and how it's used.

- Click on the newsletter link from any page on the site. Fill in your first and last names and your email address. Make a selection of the event categories that you're interested in and then click 'Submit Registration'. Within a few moments you should recieve an activation email (at the email address you gave us). Simply open this email, click the activation link and you're done.

- This is just an email that we send you as soon as you've registered to make sure that you entered the right email address. You need to open this email and click on the activation link in order to complete the registration process. If you don't open this email and click the link, we won't be able to send you our wonderful newsletter!!

- This depends on which event categories you selected when you registered for the newsletter. Some types of events are more common than others and we'll only send you details of the types of events you're interested in so if you've only selected to hear about Italian Cookery Workshops (??!!) then you will receive fewer newsletters than someone that's selected all categories.

- If at any time you decide you want to unsubscribe from our newsletter, simply click the 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of any newsletter that we've sent you and then follow the instructions.

If you've only just registered but already changed your mind, don't worry, just don't click on the activation link you will have been sent.

Searching Events:

- There are lots of ways to find an event:

Quick search - Located in a big red box at the top of most pages is a quick search box. Just type in what you're looking for and hit "Go". It works a bit like Google and searches all upcoming events.

Advanced Search - You can access the Advanced Search by clicking on the "Search" link from the menu at the top of every page. This form gives you lots of options to be more specific about what you're searching for, like start and end dates for the search, keyword search, locations and venues as well as category selection. For more help on how to use any parts of the form, just hold your mouse over the little question mark ("?") icon next to each part of the form.

Mini Calendar - Using the mini calendar that appears on the left hand side of most pages enables you to select to view events and activities taking place on any particular day. Dates with a shaded background indicate that there are events taking place on that day whereas dates with a white background don't have any. Today's fate is highlighted with an orange background.

Weekly View - You can access a listing of all events and activities taking place each week by clicking on the 'What's on this week' link on the Plug&Play home page. You can then use the green arrows located at the top and bootom of the listings to move forward or back through the weeks. Clicking on the little 'House' icon at the top of the listings will take you back to the current weeks activities. Clicking on the star icon enables you to select your favourite event categories and locations. Your selection is then saved as a 'cookie' on your computer and the weekly listings will only show you events that match your selections. To cancel your favourites selections, just click on the star again and then click 'Clear Favourites'.

- The most accurate way to find an event is with the advanced search. You can access the advanced search page by clicking on the 'Search' link from the top menu on any page.

If you've already tried the advanced search and still can't find the event, double-check that you've entered appropriate start and end dates (generally, the greater the distance between the start and the end date, the more likely you are to find what you're looking for); enter a more general search term in the keyword box (the more general your keywords, the more results you will be given i.e. 'football' will give you more results than 'Bromsgrove Town Girls Football'); if you know in which town or venue the event is taking place then make sure you select it from the location or venue lists (if you're unsure, you're better to leave this option as is); finally, if you know what type of event it is, select the appropriate categories (though selecting all of the categories will return many more results).

- Yep. Once you've done your search and found the results you want, click on the 'Link to these results' link at the top of your results and then save the page as a favourite. Alternatively, right-click on the 'Link to these results' link and select 'Add to Favorites' or 'Bookmark this link'.

- Once you've done your search and got the search results, right-click on the 'Link to these results' link at the top of the list and select 'Copy Shortcut' or 'Copy Link Location'. You can then simply paste the web link to your results into an email or message.
